Smoothie Banana!

August 31, 2018

The health benefits of bananas are substantial, so if you’re a banana lover, you’re going to love our smoothie recipes! And if you’re not really a fan of them, drinking banana smoothies is a great alternative to take advantage of their benefits.

Bananas can improve your mood and even reduce PMS symptoms. Since bananas are high in potassium, iron, Vitamin B-6 and loads of other nutrients, they can help ease symptoms of depression, protect us from illnesses and disease like kidney cancer, type 2 diabetes (by regulating our sugar) and osteoporosis (calcium).

They’re also a great ally to have for high-intensity exercise. Always eat a banana or two before starting your workout- you won’t have any of those pesky muscle cramps.

Oh, and if we have one too many glasses of wine, bananas can cure a nasty hangover, too!

Quick tips:

  • Freeze fresh fruit or veggies for your smoothies to avoid watering them down with ice cubes!

  • Keep an eye on the consistency, which will depend on what kind of blender you have. Just add almond/soy milk or substitutes you’ve chosen to keep your smoothie from being too thick.

Blueberry Banana Smoothie

  • 1 cup frozen blueberries

  • 1 frozen banana cut into small pieces

  • 1 cup soy or almond milk

  • Sprinkle of chia seeds

Blend frozen blueberries, frozen banana, soy milk, and chia seeds in a blender until smooth.

Turmeric Banana Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana cut into small pieces

  • 1 cup frozen mango

  • ¾ cup plain yogurt

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric

Blend frozen banana, frozen pineapple, yogurt and turmeric in a blender until smooth.

“Disguise the Greens” Banana Smoothie

(Because not all of us enjoy the taste of kale!)

  • 4 cups raw kale

  • 6 ounces vanilla yogurt

  • 1 frozen banana cut into small pieces

  • 1 teaspoon peanut butter

  • ¾ cup of water

Blend kale, yogurt, banana, peanut butter, water until smooth.

A Dessert Banana Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana cut into small pieces

  • 1 cup frozen (diced) pineapple

  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries

  • 3/4 cup almond or soy milk

  • 1 tablespoon honey

Blend the pineapple and strawberry in a blender until mashed. Add the other ingredients and blend on high until smooth. Top with a dab of whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel syrup, and 1 or 2 maraschino cherries!
